Traditional Audio- Oral Histories are typically interviews captured on audiotape. They are usually related to a single significant event. In the classroom students could listen to an interview which would help auditory learners. It would also help students who struggle with reading if they follow along while listening to the interview.
Emerging Audio- MP3’s or Motion Picture Experts Group, audio layer 3 is a newer audio file format. MP3’s provide high quality sound in a fraction of the space required. MP3’s could be useful in the classroom because a teacher could record a lecture or lesson and upload it as a podcast. This way, students could go back and listen to the lecture to study for an exam. This would help auditory learners because they learn the best through hearing information.
Traditional Visual- Broadcast video or Television is a traditional form of technology. A teacher could have their students watch PBS (Public Broadcasting Service), or a learning channel. As long as the content relates to the subjects being taught in class, this is a great visual for students. An educational television show can help show students something that will help them understand the material being taught in class.
Emerging Visual- Digital Video Cameras, which store the images in a digital format that can then be downloaded onto a personal computer, is an emerging visual technology. Teachers can use digital video cameras to record a science experiment in order to play it back later to students who may not understand the directions. This way the students could watch what they needed to do and the teacher would still be available to help her other students.
